Alice (Tracy McDowell) finally gets a match from her online dating service in the Northern Stage premiere production of “Take Two. WHITE RIVER JUNCTION “Take Two,” a new musical comedy created by Northern Stage, brings the traditional love story the second time around, this time and takes it kicking and screaming onto to the Web. The world premiere production, which opened Friday at the Briggs Opera House, unveiled a show that is effervescent, at times funny, at times touching, but entertaining throughout. Sam is a middle-aged housewife who has left a stifling marriage and is looking to begin again; Joe’s marriage fell apart when he realized he was gay; Alice lost her husband, and a lot more, and is terrified of the dating world; Nick, a football-loving ex-marine, is looking for love and scared to death of the digital age. The well-crafted musical score, by musical theater veteran Brett Schrier, serves more to support Doherty’s witty lyrics and create the modern ambience than to stand alone.
